Christian Education Committee

POSITION TITLE: CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE

TASK: The Session, through the Christian Education Committee, provides for the educational program of the Congregation.  The Session ensures that the educational needs of various age groups are met through a variety of opportunities for learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides for a variety of opportunities where learning for all age groups may take place. This includes Sunday School, Weekday Classes, Vacation Bible School, Retreats, Conferences, Study Groups, Youth Fellowship and the Library.

2. Provides, with minister, confirmation classes and new-member classes, at least semi-annually.

3. Oversees children’s activity time during worship, (i.e., Nursery, Learning Center, etc.).

4. Facilitates and supports the activities of the Library Committee.

5. Recruits and recommends to the Session the appointment of teachers, leaders, and administrators of the educational program; (i.e., Sunday School Superintendent, Coordinators of Nursery and Learning Center).

6. Works with Sunday School Superintendent in his/her administration of the educational program.

7. Provides encouragement, recognition, and training for volunteer leaders and teachers.

8. Presents study Bibles to our children going into the third grade.

9. Provides recognition for graduates, confirmation class, and teachers.

10. Approves selection of study materials for educational programs.

11. Provides adequate supplies, equipment, and study resources for educational programs.

12. Projects financial needs for the educational ministry and provides projected budget to the Mission and Stewardship Committee by October 15.

13. Communicates with the Congregation and community concerning the educational program of the church.

14. Supervises the youth ministry of the church, helping to plan yearly goals.

15. Sponsors youth worship and special events during the church year.

16. Supplies an advocate for outside youth groups; (i.e., Boy and Girl Scouts).

17. Provides events for annual calendar for the upcoming year to the Church office by November 15.

SUGGESTED MEMBERS OF COMMITTEE:   Includes:  Session member, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Leader, Library Coordinator, Learning Center Coordinator and two at-large members.

ACCOUNTABILITY:   The Christian Education Committee is directly responsible to the Session for its work.
